DAKOTA NORTH RETURNS THIS SUMMER
by Newsarama
This morning, Cartoonist Laurenn McCubbin posted a teaser image on her website from an as-yet untitled book from Marvel Comics apparently scheduled for a July 2006 release.
When asked, McCubbin confirmed that the book (as those who remember the logo of the original 1986 miniseries would recognize) is a new Dakota North project, though she declined to name the writer at this time.
McCubbin told Newsarama: “The upshot is that there are murders, and Dakota is awesome and solves them. Oh, and um, I am drawing superheroes. No, seriously.
“Do you see why I am not a writer?
“For me, this series will be about stretching myself as an artist, trying to do new things. Also, I will be working with a colorist for the first time, which is a whole new world - I have always done my own coloring - like on the sample image, and the idea of turning my work over to someone else is a little unnerving to me.
“As for what you can expect, hmm... well, awesomeness and special guest stars. A kickass redhead. High fashion and low behavior. Hot girls. Smart girls. Hot smart girls. You know, the usual.”
The original, five issue Dakota North miniseries debuted in 1986, written by Martha Thomases, with art by Tony Salmons. The character has appeared infrequently in the Marvel Universe since. Think high fashion detective.
Laurenn McCubbin is primarily known for her work on the graphic novel Rent Girl with writer Michelle Tea and Quit City with writer Warren Ellis. In the fall of 2005, she was hired by Image Comics as Art Director.
