Review:
WOW!!!!!!
I NEVER had the previlege of "experiencing" a comicbook such as KABUKI:
METAMORPHISIS before. This book is simpling A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!! The
art/paintings alone is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!! Eventhough i had already
sampled David Mack's other works (specifically in Daredevil), i wasn't
all that impressed about his output. I thought his run on Daredevil was
"too artsy" for a superhero comicbook. Also, before reading KABUKI:
METAMORPHISIS, i also read the previous Kabuki book MASKS OF THE NOH.
This book also did nothing special for me. Maybe partly because MASKS OF
THE NOH is in black & white and drawn by various artists.
Anyway, eventhough METAMORPHISIS is book 5 ( i think) of the Kabuki
Series, i highly recommend you get and absorb this book coz it is
really an eye opener to the potential of the comics medium. My only hesitation
is new readers would be sort of lost if they read from Book 5 so i guess
its recommended to read KABUKI from book 1 (Circle of Blood).
Basically, KABUKI is about an assassin who killed her sort-of Yakuza
bosses after finding out they are the ones who are responsible for the
death of her mother. Unfortunately, Kabuki was also badly injured in the
battle and now she is being kept in a mental institution by one of the
governement agencies who is trying to get vital information on the
organization where Kabuki previously worked for. At the same time, she
is being hunted by numerous criminal organization (including her former
employers) for their own reasons. That my friends is just the first and
simplest layer of Kabuki.
KABUKI is NOT your typical revenge flick.
Kabuki is a masterpiece. It is a perfect fusion of comicbooks and fine
art. Kabuki is about human nature and philosophy.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ KABUKI!!!!!
