Review:
From the very weird imagination of Mr. Moore comes
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
But is one man enough for such a herculean task?
Just imagine....instead of having Cyclops, Wolverine,
Jean Grey or Storm as the members of the superhero
group X-men, you now have Allan Quartermain, Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde, Captain Nemo, Mina Murray and the Invisible
Man. "
Who are they?" you ask.
Well, they're the greatest Victorian characters ever
conceived!!!
With The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen, Mr. Moore
has crafted a very enjoyable and entertaining adventure
(almost superhero) story involving very odd and very
dull classic literature characters that we really hate
to read during our high school days.
Set during the Victorian Age, Her Majesty, the Queen,
has requested a certain Mr. Bond (a relative of Sherlock
Holmes perhaps) to seek out the said group of enigmatic
characters to help stop a madman in destroying mother
England herself!!!
If you have seen the movie starring Sean Connery,
please, read the book coz with all books that was ever
translated to the silver screen (except for the absolutely
fabulous Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Peter Jackson),
this graphic novel is waaaaaaaay much, much better
than the movie.
By the way, if you are wondering, there are a couple
of editions of The League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen.
There is the trade paperback edition which just includes
the whole story where the movie is supposed to be based
on and there is the Absolute Edition.
The Absolute Edition has a slipcase which includes
2 oversized hardcovers. The first hardcover contains
everything in the trade paperback edition. While the
second hardcover contains the script for The
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore in its ENTIRETY!!!!
I know this seems not a big deal to a new reader but
if you know Mr. Moore, his scripts are legendary in
the comics world. His scripts are sooooo detailed and
soooo long that it seems torture and unfair to the
artist who have to translate all of that info in just
180 pages of comics.
So if u want a sneek peek at the
mind of a genius that is Mr. Moore, I definitely
recommend to you to purchase
the absolute edition.
